Event Details

This talk will explore the development of the defences of York City Walls over nearly 2000 years.

York City Walls are probably the finest multi-period city walls in the United Kingdom.

This talk will explore the development of the defences over nearly 2000 years.

It will look at the ways in which the defences of Eboracum, Eoforwic, Jorvik and York were successively constructed and amended in order to provide not only security for those inside the defences but also political and economic statements in earth, timber and stone about the roles, significances and ambitions of the most important city in the north of England.

Non-members of York Civic Trust are welcome to attend this event. Tickets for non-members are available to purchase 3 weeks before.
