Have you ever wondered how underpants worked in the past? What did people wear under their clothes, and what were all those layers for? Journey through the history of undies with York Castle Museum’s Dr Faye Prior.
Learn how people in the past used underwear to shape and protect their bodies, and find out about the extremes fashionable people went to in order to create the look of the day.
This session will last one hour and will include a talk about the history of underwear as worn in the UK and Europe from the middle ages to the 20th century, followed by an object viewing and handling session using historic underwear from our collection.
This event coincides with York Fashion Week 2018.
£5 (museum admission applies) – please book ahead via Eventbrite.
