“Having spent a month travelling the United States, former detective Nick Charles and his plucky heiress wife Nora return home to New York, ready to ring in a quiet New Year. Their arrival coincides with a phone call from Nora’s cousin Selma, declaring that her cheating, gold digging husband Robert has gone missing.

With the family desperate to hush up the scandal, Nick reluctantly agrees to look for him, but the case takes a twist when, moments after the stroke of midnight, Robert is found shot to death on the sidewalk – and Selma is accused of his murder.

With hot-shot Lieutenant Abrams on the case, Nick is more than happy to return to his whiskey and leave them to it. But at the persistence of the crime-novel-loving Nora, the pair soon find themselves embroiled in scheming jazz club performers, gun wielding gangsters and revenge plotting old flames…”

Friargate Theatre is based on the first floor, via a staircase and currently there is no lift available.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Shine Like Stars Theatre Company is a youth theatre local to York that was established in 2013 by theatre practitioner Debbie Phillips. To date, the company has produced 41 productions, including two feature films and a web series that were created during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Shine Like Stars works with small casts in order to give performers plenty of stage time and allow our team to work one on one with our actors.
