Mutant Movement 1978 Special: 45th Anniversary DJ Set

Five hours of the coolest music of the day, keeping you dancing until 2am or just sitting, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere and sounds of 1978.

Anyone who has been to a Mutant Movement night will tell you how unbelievable awesome it is to go out and enjoy listening or dancing to forgotten songs of yesteryear and when we say cool, we mean the music that came from the underground, some of it staying there and some crossing over to reach the masses but either way, highly influential on the music of tomorrow.

This year saw punk still riding the crest of a wave whilst morphing into post punk from the likes of Magazine & Joy Division from Manchester. Synthesizers were becoming affordable and again, Northern cities such as Sheffield & Hull were at the forefront of the scene. Not forgetting OMD, Ultravox and how Gary Numan used a keyboard left in the studio just by chance!

Original synth pioneers released the seminal album Die Mensch·Maschine, entitled Man Machine in English speaking countries. Japan released two albums this year and The Cure put out their first single, recording it for their Peel session too along with the timeless Boys Don’t Cry.
