The Legend Returns!

On the final night of the Christmas term, after the college first opened its doors in 1841, the Archbishop of York had a barrel of ale donated to the students for them to celebrate the end of the first ever term!

Whenever an Archbishop of York has appeared in front of the students of YSJ since, he has donated beer again.

We celebrate three days a year at the end of each term which through the years have adopted the name ‘Archie’s Day’ in honour of this great act of charity and t honour the men that have borne the title of Archbishop!

Thus… the legend began!
