Come join us for a special showing of Breathe at the New Earswick Folk Hall, in celebration of Disability Awareness Month.
After contracting polio at the age of 28, Robin Cavendish is confined to bed and given only months to live. But with the help of his wife Diana and her twin brothers, and the ground-breaking ideas of inventor Teddy Hall, Cavendish emerges from the hospital ward and devotes the rest of his life to helping fellow patients and the disabled.
Breathe is a 2017 biographical drama film directed by Andy Serkis in his directorial debut, from a screenplay by William Nicholson. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hollander, Ed Speleers and Dean-Charles Chapman.
Supported by funding from Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and Joseph Rowntree Foundation, we will also be joined by the British Polio Fellowship for a talk before the film.
Enjoy this beautiful film among friends in our relaxed and beautiful hall, created by Joseph Rowntree to bring communities together under one roof. As well as music and a licensed bar, we have table seating and an interval so you can make your cinema trip a social one.
Tickets are only £5 including vintage cakes and savoury food for you to enjoy during the film – See Eventbrite tickets for options.
